Shouraya Pendgaonkar's project highlights a straightforward way to foster community service and connect nonprofits with volunteers.

Students from local school districts were handpicked by the ONE Project Board based on the issues they chose to address to support in their communities. They were assigned mentors and trained to take on the project work that lasted many months.

Project Goals

  • Address shelter issues: lack of funding, space, and public awareness.

  • Provide solutions: education via social media, fundraisers for supplies.

  • Plan impactful events at Princeton Public Library and other locations.

  • Collaborate with shelters like SAVE Animal Shelter and Greater Princeton Alliance of Youth Leaders.

  • Engage community with activities like blanket and snuffle mat creation.

Activities and Results

  • Created 12 blankets and 4 snuffle mats.

  • Hosted event at Princeton Public Library.

  • Established a school club with 136 sign-ups.

  • Involved in community outreach and fundraising efforts.

 

Claire Hua's project effectively enhances shelter support through awareness, fundraising, and youth engagement.

Project Goals

  • Bridge food waste and hunger by rescuing surplus food from local establishments.

  • Support SMM’s 2026 expansion with research on potential donors and logistics.

Research and Actions

  • Studied 20 restaurants, hotels, and cafes regarding food safety and surplus recovery potential.

  • Volunteered in food deliveries to families.

  • Created a ranked map of 25 potential food donors for future outreach.

Impact and Skills

  • Provided data that supports safe food recovery and scalable expansion.

  • Demonstrated leadership, persistence, and community service.
